Cetus Espoo Swimming Sports Support Fund

Cetus has established a support fund for aquatic sports, which was approved at the club’s annual meeting in autumn 2025. The operation of the fund has been prepared with the assistance of its board, and it will be launched in autumn 2026. Until now, the club has supported underprivileged athletes through its operational budget. The club has aimed to create a permanent and transparent system for collecting, managing, and distributing support funds outside the regular budget.

The purpose of the fund is to distribute financial support to enable participation in competitive swimming, artistic swimming, and water polo within the association. In accordance with its purpose, the fund grants support to members of the association, which is used in full to cover the training and coaching fees of the training groups and teams approved by the association’s board.

Criteria for granting support:

  • the need for support and its amount are justified in the applicant’s application, and the application otherwise complies with the instructions for applying for support;
  • the applicant represents Cetus Espoo in events under the Suomen Uimaliitto ry and trains regularly in the association’s training group or team; and
  • the applicant has not turned 20 by the end of the calendar year to which the season belongs.

The following principles apply to the distribution of support from the fund:

  1. the support is intended for children and young people whose ability to continue their goal-oriented sports activity may be hindered by participation fees;
  2. the support is discretionary, and the conditions for granting it are defined in the fund’s rules and guidelines;

  3. payment of the support is conditional upon compliance with the rules and guidelines of the fund and the association; and

  4. the support is non-compensatory for the recipient.

When allocating support, the following application criteria are taken into account:

  • The family’s financial situation: income, expenses, and need for support
  • The family’s life situation: number of children, unemployment, number of adults in the household, health-related factors, and other hobbies
  • Whether the need for support is temporary or ongoing
  • The applicant’s active and regular participation in the sport

The above-mentioned factors must be described in the application form.

Support is granted for a maximum of one activity season at a time. The granted support may cover up to 50% of the fees for a single season and up to a maximum of 1000 euros within one calendar year. The amount of support granted depends on the financial situation of the support fund and the number of applications. Support can only be applied for future payments.

Support applications are handled confidentially by the support fund’s management committee and the board. Based on the applications, the committee prepares proposals for decisions on approving or rejecting support, as well as the amount and duration of the support, for the Cetus board after the application period has ended.

The Executive Director may request additional information before processing if necessary and will inform the applicant of the decision personally.

The family is obliged to inform the club if the need for support changes during the season and the granted support is no longer needed (). If the athlete stops participating in Cetus, the support payments will end. In case of injuries, the club’s financial regulations apply, and support is not paid for months during which the athlete has a fee exemption.

The payment of support will be discontinued during the season if the applicant no longer meets the conditions for receiving support or if the applicant’s actions or behavior are contrary to the association’s rules or values.
