Swim Class 3
In Swimming School 3, children develop water confidence, swimming skills, and pool etiquette, with many exercises taking place in the main pool together with the swimming instructor. After mastering the Swimming School 3 skills, children can continue to the CetusMix course held in the main pool. Each lesson lasts 40 minutes.
Starting level requirements
To participate in this course, the child should be able to swim 15 metres on their front (front swim) and 15 metres on their back (elementary backstroke). The child should also feel confident swimming in the deep pool with the guidance of the swimming instructor.
Participants should be able to follow the swimming instructor’s directions, work confidently in a group, and stay focused during the lesson.
The course is designed for children aged 5–8 years and older.
We recommend that children are at least 100 cm tall before enrolling.
Objectives
In Swimming School 3, children further develop their aquatic competence, swimming confidence, and swimming skills while learning the pool etiquette required for swimming in the deep pool. A significant portion of the lessons takes place in the deep pool, where the swimming instructor is in the water with the children to provide guidance and support. Each lesson lasts 40 minutes.
By the end of the course, children are expected to be able to swim 25 metres independently in the deep pool using both front swim (myyräuinti) and elementary backstroke. They also continue to develop body control through a variety of skill-based exercises and learn the rules and routines for safe and confident participation in deep-pool lessons.
A child is considered to have successfully completed Swimming School 3 when they achieve at least 6 out of 9 assessment criteria. After completing the course, they may progress to deep-pool swimming courses, where instruction is provided from the poolside rather than with the instructor in the water.
